UNDATED (WKZO AM/FM) — There are some basic rules if you are not a regular voter. Call it “polling place etiquette”.
Don’t wear campaign t-shirts or hats endorsing candidates and leave campaign material in your car. You are however allowed to take in a list of candidates you plan to vote for.
Secretary of State Ruth Johnson says you may need that cheat sheet, because straight ticket voting will not be allowed this time out. If you vote “yes” and enough other people do too, it will be available at the next election and every election after that.
To make sure you vote for everything Kalamazoo School Board Trustee Tianna Harrison suggested last week that voters flip the ballot over first and vote in the local races, for what she says are the elected offices that really have most impact on the lives of local citizens.
That’s also where the three ballot proposals are also located.
Then flip the ballot over and vote for the statewide candidates.
Bring a driver’s license or a state I.D., it will speed up processing, but even if you don’t have one, you should be allowed to vote if you fill out an affidavit.
Finally no selfies in the polling place are allowed, it’s against the law and could result in your ballot being invalidated.
WKZO will be working with CBS Radio News to provide wall to wall coverage of this critical and what could be a record breaking mid-term election this evening.
Among the special commentators tonight will be Gene Clem and Peter Bathani who will bring their own perspectives to the coverage.
We will be on the air live at 7 pm with all the election news as it becomes available on News Radio 590 and 106-9 fm wkzo.
