ALLENDALE (WKZO AM/FM) — Grand Valley State University is banning the use of alcohol at all fraternity and sorority events until further notice.
Vice Provost Loren Rullman says they are concerned about the welfare and safety of the students.
School leaders say the decision is not due to any specific event, but rather because alcohol has been a common factor in sanctions and suspensions against nine frats in the past five years, including one this school year.
It’s not a ban on use of alcohol by frat and sorority members, just at organized events, and they plan to let the frats police themselves.
Right now there are about 18-hundred students involved in Greek life at Grand Valley State University.
