CASS COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — For the second time this week there has been a serious injury in Cass County due to a car-deer collision and the potential for more collisions will be very real over the next few weeks.
Deputies say 50-year-old Michelle Wax of Vandalia was traveling westbound on Dutch Settlement Road in Marcellus Township just after 12:30 p.m. Thursday when she struck a deer and was injured as a result.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller says it’s mating season and they aren’t paying attention to traffic.
Because of this, drivers have to be extra alert, watch the side of the roads especially on darker or rural roads, and as always have both hands on the wheel at all times.
He says rural two lane roads with higher speed limits are where most of the crashes occur because that’s where most of the deer are and where they are the hardest to see.
