MT. PLEASANT (WKZO AM/FM) — A Central Michigan University Student who allegedly had some sort of mental breakdown last spring and then shot his parents to death in his dorm room, will be going to trial. .
James Davis Jr. has now been found competent to stand trial. That means he will be able to assist in his own defense.
They could still pursue an insanity defense if they think they can prove he did not know right from wrong at the time of the killing.
Davis was initially found to be incompetent last March, but after treatment, his condition has apparently improved.
He is charged with open murder and gun felonies, after police say he used his father’s gun, which he found in their car.
He is being held on $1.25-million bond.
No trial date has been set.
