MARSHALL TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — A Battle Creek man who was involved in a ferocious gun battle with police in July of last year, could now get up to life in prison.
The jury only needed an hour to convict 48-year-old Trent Davis of all 8-counts he faced, including two counts of attempted murder.
The prosecutor contended that Davis was fleeing from police after a burglary, when he crashed and came out of his vehicle firing a rifle.
When it jammed they testified that he grabbed a pistol and started firing it at a County Deputy and a State Trooper who were firing back, using their vehicles as cover.
Davis claimed that before he was hit, he was just trying to provoke the officers into killing him because he was suicidal.
But he was shot when he was trying to run away, and the jury apparently didn’t believe the claim.
He was also convicted for fleeing police and five felony gun counts.
He will be sentenced in December. Because he has a previous criminal record, he could get the maximum.
