KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo man with ties to the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh is mourning the loss of the 11 people killed in Saturday’s shooting.
A vigil was held at the Congregation of Moses off Stadium Drive in Kalamazoo Sunday evening where Jeffrey Haus, now a Kalamazoo College Jewish Studies Professor, shared how he grew up going to that synagogue.
He says his mother would have been there when the place was attacked but she was late for service that day.
He adds that many who died were regulars who he remembered personally.
Now congregations are mourning the major loss but also looking at it as a learning opportunity to increase security measures at places of worship around the nation.
