KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A juvenile court judge has found a Kalamazoo Student who is charged with attacking and choking a teacher competent to stand trial.
The boy was charged after a confrontation over an ID Card back in February. There is cell phone video in evidence of the minor jumping on the teacher’s back and getting him in a choke hold in a classroom at Kalamazoo Central High, and the two banging into furniture.
The Family Court Judge reviewed a report by a local Psychiatrist that said the boy showed signs of mental illness.
But there were two other reports done by forensic Psychiatrists who said the student was able to describe the incident and while they said he had a conduct disorder, they both agreed he should be able to assist his lawyer in his defense.
Family members disagree with the Judge’s decision and say they may challenge it.
