UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM) — The City of Oak Park amended a policy on clown costumes for an upcoming Boo Bash event.
The Parks and Recreation Department of the Detroit suburb had announced earlier this week that clown costumes would not be allowed, because of the anxiety and phobias some have about the characters, especially as clowns have been depicted as evil in recent movies and television programs, leading to the increased popularity of “scary” clown masks.
Once word of Oak Park’s policy went viral, city officials backtracked on that ban, releasing a statement yesterday in that there will be no ban on any costumes, but are asking parents to use their “best judgment” when deciding on costumes.
