BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — The alleged hit and run driver who ran straight to his lawyer after striking and killing a woman at a Battle Creek intersection was scheduled for preliminary exam this week but it didn’t happen.
Despite having a head start, the attorney for Kevin Frederick told the judge he needed more time to review the evidence and got the judge to give him a continuance.
Frederick, who has repeated arrests for driving on a suspended license, was not supposed to be driving when police say he turned a corner and ran over 41-year-old Trish Albrecht, an occupational therapist who was in the crosswalk and had the right of way.
His attorney claims he thought he just hit the curb and was unaware that he hit a person.
He is charged with driving on a suspended license causing death, a 15-year-felony.
