KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — It’s the final piece in the puzzle…the cherry on top, the end goal of a year’s long effort to consolidate services for low income and underserved residents at one location.
The new Human Services Campus at the site of the old Allied Paper Plant on Alcott will be the new home for the Department of Health and Human Services, which is currently located on Stockbridge.
It brings the state agency together with many other agencies dealing with low income residents together in one location, the Community Health Center, the County Health Department, a Mental Health Clinic and Goodwill Industries.
There is also a proposal for a residential facility for recovering addicts and others that would be located nearby.
They hope to begin work on the 70,000 square foot building yet this fall and have it up and operating in 2020.
