GRAND HAVEN (WKZO AM/FM) — There was never any question that Wendell Popejoy walked up to neighbor Sheila Bonge and shot her in the head at close range while she was running a snow blower and then buried her nude body in the snow behind his house just after last Christmas.
He had already confessed that.
Other neighbors testified that Bonge was abusive, insulting, annoying and infuriating and had been for some time.
The question before he jury in Grand Haven was whether it was a spur of the moment act of outrage, or a premeditated murder.
They opted for the later, agreeing with the prosecutor that Popejoy had time to consider what he was doing when he got his gun and before he shot the 59 year old woman.
It will mean life without chance of parole when he is sentenced.
