KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Ascension Borgess will set the final beam in a “topping off ceremony” today as progress continues on their 35-million dollar expansion at their Gull Road Campus.
For a few days the honorary beam has been sitting in the Atrium at the medical center, to give anyone who passed by a chance to sign it. It’s a chance in their own small little way to be part of the structure.
Chief Physician Gary Druskovich says the expansion will update their birthing center and expand the size of their operating rooms to allow the placement of all the new equipment that is available to surgeons these days.
A small evergreen will be attached to the final beam, a Scandinavian tradition that originally appeased the tree spirits the building had replaced. Today it just brings good luck.
