KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The Gospel Mission had hoped to clear a tent city from a parcel of land across Harrison Street from the Ministry with Community by mid-afternoon yesterday, but it took longer.
When we checked late yesterday afternoon, former residents of the camp site were still packing up and leaving, and a number of tents were still standing.
It grew after the city cleared many of them from Bronson Park in the previous week.
But Gospel Mission officials say while most of the occupants were law abiding, there was also drug abuse, prostitution and other crimes taking place.
The Mission has invited any of them who can obey the rules to rejoin them in the shelter.
