Right now catering to the elderly is a growth industry because it’s one of the fastest growing demographics in the country, as boomers move into their 60’s.
Just as that generation redefined the nation’s culture, its politics and its music, the Boom Generation is redefining what it means to be a senior. For many it may mean poverty.
Most boomers don’t have the pensions waiting for them that their parents had and a disturbing number have not prepared for retirement. That will mean more will be living in poverty and in need of services.
Anne Zemlick, the Director of the Area Agency on Aging says passage of the Senior Millage in August will help meet more senior needs, but may not be able to meet all of them.
