KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo City Commissioners will consider an offer from Harbor Farms Real Estate to sell up to 7 acres in the long vacant Davis Creek Business Park for the cultivation and processing of Marijuana.
City staff says the reclaimed former Lakeside Refinery site on the city’s southeast side was redeveloped for 8 industrial sites and they haven’t sold a single one of them since the area was put on the market over ten years ago.
The firm is planning to spend $5-million developing the site and the operation would create 20-jobs.
The deal is dependent on Harbor Farms securing the necessary permits from the City and the State for the operation of the separate permits to grow and process marijuana.
They initially want to buy 4-acres for $80,000, with an option to buy three more for expansion later on. The site apparently meets all of city’s siting distance requirements from schools, churches, parks and other public areas.
The tentative sales proposal is on the Commission’s agenda Monday night.
