BANGOR TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — A South Haven woman accused of killing her boyfriend after driving her car into an icy lake is now heading to prison.
22-year-old Tara Smith pleaded guilty one count of driving under the influence back in August and was sentenced this week to about 1.5 to 15 years behind bars.
Smith was traveling on 36th Avenue in Bangor Township last December when she came to the dead end and launched her vehicle into School Section Lake.
She was able to swim to shore but her boyfriend, 22-year-old Jezreel Wallace of Bangor was pulled out by rescuers and later died at the hospital.
Smith will get credit for the 188 days she already served.
