JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — A drowsy driver from Dowagiac is injured after he left the road way and struck a tree.
It happened just before 2:30 p.m. Monday on Brownsville Street west of Diamond View Road in Jefferson Township.
Cass County Sheriff deputies say 31-year-old Matthew Bixby was traveling westbound on Brownsville when he became drowsy, went off the roadway, and struck a large, dead tree.
The impact caused the top of the tree to break off and go smashing onto the roof of his car.
Bixby, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time, was injured in the crash but refused medical treatment on scene and was taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle.
Investigators say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
