MICHIGAN (WKZO AM/FM) — A vote to legalize recreational marijuana will be sitting before Michigan voters this November, so local officers traveled to one of the first states to legalize the drug to see it in action.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller and other officials spoke with officers in Colorado on a tour of “the good, the bad and the ugly,” analyzing their latest drug statistics.
But officials said the bad and ugly trumped the good as many complained that it creates more work for law enforcement, more drugged driving, safety concerns and higher drop out rates in schools.
Even marijuana distributors said they are not sure where all the government money is going and that the legalization was too fast and not regulated enough.
6 press conferences were held around the state on Wednesday with Michigan police, prosecutors and health officials that oppose the legalization.
The Coalition to Regulate Marijuana like Alcohol says officials are just using “scare tactics” to mislead voters.
