KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Borgess Medical Center is getting a new name, and so are its satellite hospitals.
They are being re-branded to reflect that they are part of the Ascension health system.
The new name for the Kalamazoo facility on Gull Road will be the Ascension Borgess Hospital.
Their affiliate facilities: Borgess Lee in Dowagiac and Borgess Pipp in Plainwell will also have Ascension tacked on to the beginning of their names.
In other news, the Bronson Healthcare Group says it plans to spend up to $22-million dollars to replace their hospital and medical offices in South Haven.
They plan to spend the next two years building a new facility in a health village setting.
Healthcare has changed, with more outpatient treatments and shorter stays and the new facility will address those changes.
The new hospital and offices will be built on the east side of their current property on Bailey Avenue, near the Blue Star Highway entrance.
If they get all the proper permits, construction would begin in a year.
The new facility would be ready by the end of 2020, and once they make the move, the old hospital would be demolished and turned into parking space.
