KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A construction elevator at The Exchange project in downtown Kalamazoo is going up and going pink for an important cause.
On Tuesday First Lady and breast cancer survivor Sue Snyder piloted the 6,000 pound pink construction hoist as part of the “Ride the Pink Elevator” campaign.
The project is made possible by Metro Elevator Inc. and Orion Construction who are working on the construction site at the southeast corner of Michigan Avenue and Rose Street in Kalamazoo.
The elevator is not meant to just be pretty, but it’s a way to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen organization to fight breast cancer.
The construction elevators have been “turning pink” all around Michigan with another at the Hyatt Place South in downtown Grand Rapids.
Residents can donate to the breast cancer programs and services by going to komenmichigan.org or call (616) 752-8262.
More information on the pink elevator movement can be found at the Susan G. Komen website or at Metro Elevator’s Facebook page.
