UNDATED (WKZO AM/FM) — Today is 9/11 and communities across the nation are taking part in ceremonies, services, and events to remember and reflect on the tragedy that occurred 17 years ago.
In Kalamazoo, firefighters and others will participate in the annual Stair Climb at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Wings Event Center.
They will use the stadium to simulate the 110 story climb up the World Trade Center towers.
A 1-hour remembrance service is also being held in Bronson Park at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
In West Michigan, Students at Grand Valley State University will plant 2,977 flags in the lawn of the Kirkhof Center on the Allendale campus and near the clock tower on the Grand Rapids Campus, one for each victim.
A community day of remembrance and a scout salute from dawn until dusk will also be at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in downtown Grand Rapids.
This is the 17th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington D.C., and the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 in Shanksville Pennsylvania.
Approximately 3,000 were killed and another 6,000 were injured on the tragic day.
