OTTAWA COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — A single-car crash killed 93-year-old Keith Cole of Hudsonville just after 12:30 Saturday afternoon according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Buter.
Police arriving at Stanton Street, west of Lakeshore Drive found a 2000 Nissan that had hit a tree, with an unresponsive driver.
Sgt. Buter said emergency measures to revive him were unsuccesful. Doctors later determined Mr. Cole suffered a medical event prior to the crash, Buter said.
Less than two hours later, police were at another crash scene, this time involving West Olive resident Ricky Quillian, 61, who survived a close call just after 2 p.m. Saturday while riding his 2017 Harley Davidson, Buter said.
Quillian had been northbound on 96th Avenue in Blendon Township when a car on New Holland Street approached from the east, then turned south onto 96th Avenue.
Buter said Quillian didn’t anticipate the car turning and hit his brakes hard, causing the motorcyle to tumble several times.
He had been wearing a helmet and was taken for treatment to Spectrum Zeeland Hospital for what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries
