KALAMAZOO COUNTY (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County Sheriff deputies say alcohol is believed to have been a factor in a fatal boating accident near Vicksburg.
The crash occurred just before 6 p.m. Saturday near a canal that connects Barton Lake with Tub Lake.
The span carries Portage Road over the waterway, on Kalamazoo County’s far south side.
Kalamazoo County Deputies and South County Rescue responded and found the wreckage.
Authorities say 53-year-old Wilson Jr Rogers was driving into the tunnel under Portage Road when his two passengers struck their heads.
56-year-old Anthony Rogers and 46-year-old Lamar Ayers, both from Kalamazoo, were killed.
High water in the south county lakes may have contributed to the boat failing to fit under the span.
It remains under investigation.
