KALAMAZOO, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The Haworth name may be synonymous with Holland, but it does have a strong link with Kalamazoo as well.
This morning, the Haworth College of Business on Western Michigan University’s main campus unveiled a new display that school officials say, “honor the enduring relationship between the Haworth family and the college of business.” The display, installed during the spring and summer semesters in the 1400 corridor of Schneider Hall, details the family’s support of WMU and the business college and highlights the origin, core values and products stemming from the now-70-year-old office furniture manufacturing company founded in Holland by GW Haworth, a 1937 graduate. His son, Dick, and current Haworth Inc. chairman Matthew Haworth attended the ceremony.
WMU officials add that the Haworth family display begins a “process to transform the 1400 hallway of Schneider Hall into a museum space that will education students and others in the building about significant alumni and donors.” The College of Business was renamed in honor of GW Haworth when he made a major capitol donation to his alma mater during the 1980’s.
