KALAMAZOO COUNTY (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County residents are being warned about a series of mail thefts in the area.
Portage Public Safety officers say they’ve received several reports of mail being taken from mailboxes with other similar cases throughout Kalamazoo County.
The mail thieves are searching for sensitive documents like checks, credit and debit cards, and other financial information and then using them for their personal shopping sprees.
Officials are reminding homeowners to not keep important mail in their mailboxes for long periods of time, check the mail often, or even have their mail delivered to a post office if they are away for a while.
Suspicious mail activity in any area can be reported to the local police department and Portage residents should contact the Portage Department of Public Safety at 329-4567 or Silent Observer at 343-2100.
