LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — Flags are being lowered to half-staff today in memory of former state Senator Patricia Birkholz. She lost her battle with cancer back on May 3rd but the Michigan Senate is holding a remembrance ceremony today to celebrate her life and service to the state.
Birkholz first served as the Sautautuck Township trustee and Allegan County treasurer before becoming a state Representative for three terms, a state Senator for two terms, and the Great Lakes Director as well as other leadership roles throughout her lifetime.
Governor Rick Snyder ordered all U.S. and Michigan flags within the State Capitol to be lowered today and said that “Patty was a great advocate for the environment and Great Lakes.”
