KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — West Michigan has been pounded by storm after storm for the last week, including nine small tornadoes, heavy rains, winds, hail and lightning.
Most of the worst storms hit north of the Kalamazoo area, but the storm track came right through town Monday night.
Heavy rainfall has caused a repeat of flooding in the Southtown area that could disrupt morning commuters.
Crosstown, Park, Vine, Howard, Forest, Rose, Stockbridge and Dutton all had water covering them but Kalamazoo Public Safety officers say the majority of flooded roads have since reopened.
City officials say for your own safety, don’t go around barriers and driving through standing water could ruin your engine, if floodwater gets sucked into your cylinders.
Several cars have already had to be towed out of flood zones.
The stormy weather also closed Sprinkle Avenue in Portage when a large tree fell across the road.
A tree fell between two homes on James Street, causing damage.
Consumers Energy repair crews have been on the run all week, chasing after one storm or another.
Over a thousand homes and businesses were blacked out well into the night in Kalamazoo County.
There is still possible street flooding and lingering storm debris in the area as well as students waited for the buses and walking to classes for the first day of school.
