KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Tuesday is the first day of school for students in Kalamazoo County and many will be welcomed by celebrity greeters as they walk through the door.
KPS Superintendent Dr. Michael Rice says a simple handshake, high-five, or fist pump demonstrates to the students just how important it is that they attend school and get excited for the year ahead.
Drivers should also be extra careful behind the wheel as more students will be walking to class and waiting for school buses.
Commuters should be patient and not try to go around school buses when they have their red lights flashing.
Officials say it’s important to always come to a complete stop and be cautious because it’s sometimes hard to tell when eager students may be getting on or off the bus.
