GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO AM/FM) — A Grand Rapids man, who was mistakenly taken into custody for allegedly urinating on a 5-year-old African American girl while using a racial slur has been released from custody.
Charges were dismissed and the man was freed after it was revealed that the children made up the story.
Apparently one of the other kids was responsible for the urine and the children made up the story to stay out of trouble.
The prosecutor says the parents began to suspect the story had been fabriicated and got their children to admit it.
Police say the children are all too young to charge with filing a false police report. It will be left to their parents to discipline the kids.
As for the suspect/victim, the father of the little girl plans a personal apology.
The Prosecutor’s office was critical of members of the news media who released the name of the suspect turned victim before he was formally charged.
