CASSOPOLIS (WKZO AM/FM) — Here is a startling statistic, 7 police dogs died last year in the U.S. because they were left in police cars that overheated in the sun.
To keep that from happening to Nellie the Sheriff Department’s bloodhound, a Cass County businesswoman started a fund drive to “Keep Nellie Cool”.
Deb Rohdy, owner of the Bow Wow Bakery and Bath wanted to raise enough to install the K-9’s aging patrol car with a $1,800 heat sensor, that would call her handler’s cell phone and alert her if there was a problem.
They not only raised enough for the sensor, but to pay for a custom equipped Chevy Tahoe.
Now Nellie won’t just be cool on the inside. She will be cool on the outside as well.
