MUSKEGON (WKZO AM/FM) — A judge is dismissing all the remaining cases for convicted Muskegon County killer Jeffrey Willis.
Prosecutor D.J. Hilson says Willis was a serial killer in the making who was stopped short by a courageous teenager who might have been his third victim.
But after consulting with the teen and her family he has decided to drop the remaining charges against Willis, who has already been convicted in the murders of Jessica Heeringa and Rebekah Bletsch, and is serving two life terms without parole.
Willis picked up the teen and gave her a ride but she managed to escape in the Spring of 2016 when he tried to assault her.
It was her description of Willis and his van that eventually led to his arrest for that attempted kidnap and the evidence that implicated him in the two murders.
He faced about 15 unresolved counts including kidnapping and assault.
It will save taxpayer money and give Willis a chance to spend more time in his cell.
