GRAND RAPIDS (WHTC-AM/FM) — The National Weather Service’s Grand Rapids meteorologists have issued a “significant weather” adivsory.
This alert applies to Allegan, Ottawa, Muskegon, Kalamazoo, Barry, Van Buren and Calhoun counties.
A line of thunderstorms is heading over West Michigan and is expected to contain frequent lightning, gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall.
Additional storms are developing out ahead of the main line, around Kalamazoo. These storms will continue tracking east through 9 a.m. and will likely affect Holland, Saugatuck, Muskegon to South Haven, Grand Rapids, Hastings and Kalamazoo.
The strongest storms could include winds gusting to 30 mph, with frequent lightning and brief heavy rainfall rates that may top a half inch per hour.
