KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Voters in Kalamazoo County were asked for a fraction of a mill to fully fund senior programs, which have had waiting lists for years.
The Senior Millage, which Campaign Co-Chair Lucinda Stinson says was an issue that sold itself, passed 2 to 1.
The shortfall is expected to continue to grow and the waiting lists have been getting longer and longer as funding has been cut and baby boomers have begun to swell the senior population.
Kalamazoo County is one of the few in the state that did not have a dedicated millage supporting senior programs.
On Tuesday, voters approved about a third of a mill which will cost a homeowner with a $100,000 home about $35 per year.
