BYRON TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — The 100th Street bridge over US-131 in southern Kent County has been hit, again.
It was doing just fine for a while, but unfortunately an oversized modular home struck the overpass Monday morning.
Michigan Department of Transportation officials say nobody was injured and there was no further damage to the bridge.
It’s the first time the 100th Street overpass has been hit since authorities increased patrols around the area back in June.
The bridge is listed as having a 13-foot, 11-inch clearance, but actually has a 14-1 clearance. A 1949 Michigan law limits trucks from carrying loads higher than 13-feet, 6-inches without a permit. Several drivers who’ve crashed into the 100th Street bride have been cited by police for too-tall loads.
Plans are in the works to create a new, taller bridge by 2020.
The bridge because social media famous with its own Facebook page earlier this year.
