BENTON HARBOR, MI (WTVB) – A horrible tragedy early Saturday morning near Benton Harbor as authorities say five children and a woman from the same family were killed in a massive motel fire.
The fire broke out at the Cosmo Extended Stay Motel on I-94 east of Benton Harbor at about 1:45 a.m..
WNDU-TV in South Bend reports the female victim has been identified as 26-year-old Kierra Samuel. The five children who died were between two and ten years old.
They were identified as Marquise Thomas, 10; Jerome Randolph, 7; Samuel Curtis, 5; Savat Curtis, 4; and Avery Curtis, 2
WSBT-TV in South Bend, Ind., reports a 2-year-old was hospitalized.
Officials say 27 rooms were occupied at the time of the fire. A cause of the fire has not been determined but the state fire marshal will be assisting with investigation.
