PORTAGE (WKZO AM-FM) — The $465-million dollar expansion at the Pfizer Plant in Portage that we told you about a few months ago has apparently been given the go-ahead from the home office, and awarded a $10-million “Good Jobs for Michigan” grant from the MEDC, this morning.
That is in addition to a 50% reduction in their local property taxes for the next 12 or more years.
It will generate 140 new jobs in the next two years and 450 in the next six years, jobs that pay an average of $93-thousand a year.
Kirsten Lund-Jurgenson, the President of Pfizer Global Supply says the 400,000 square foot plant they build here will be a one of a kind, cutting edge Sterile Injectable manufacturing and bottling facility.
She says it will be the biggest, most expensive project she has ever been involved with.
Governor Rick Snyder and Lt. Governor Brian Calley were both in attendance for the announcement.
The plan is to break ground next year, complete construction in 2021 and go operational after all the equipment has been installed and certifications granted in 2024.
