ROYALTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Berrien County Sheriff deputies say they have pulled a body from the St. Joseph River that may be a missing Kalamazoo kayaker.
35-year-old Michael Scott was kayaking with friends from the Kalamazoo Paddle Club when he went under and did not resurface near the Jasper Dairy Boat Launch Saturday evening.
Searches during the day Sunday and Monday were called off due to low visibility and swift currents in the water.
The body was later found by a fisherman with high-powered lights around 10:30 p.m. Monday near where Scott disappeared.
Sheriff Paul Bailey says an autopsy will be conducted to verify his ID and to try to determine a cause of death.
