COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man has entered a not guilty plea to a charge of assault and battery after he allegedly punched a woman Wednesday afternoon following a SUV-bicycle injury accident.
54-year old Philip Raymond Miller appeared Thursday for his arraignment in Branch County District Court. Coldwater City Police say a Chevrolet Blazer driven by 26-year old Donna Landis of Coldwater was southbound on Avery Drive and had stopped at the intersection with East Chicago Street. According to officers, 72 year old Julie Firlet of Coldwater was riding her bike on the Chicago Street sidewalk when she fell off the bike after being bumped by the Blazer.
Police said that Miller, who they identified as Firlet’s husband, was walking with his wife when the incident happened around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday. Witnesses told officers Miller got upset and went to Landis’ car and reached thru the driver’s window and allegedly struck her in the face. Police say Landis suffered a cut lip but refused medical treatment.
Miller was released from custody yesterday after posting a $5,000 bond and has a pre-trial conference scheduled for July 25, 2018.
