SAUGATUCK TWP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) — One of the two children hurt in a car-dirt bike crash Wednesday night in Saugatuck Township has died, according to authorities.
Allegan County Sheriff’s Office emailed that information to the media, Thursday afternoon, wtih the following details:
The crash happened on 126th Ave., east of Blue Star Hwy. The children, both minors, were riding the dirt bike that collided with a passenger car that had been headed west on 126th. Neither child was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.
The children were flown, one via AeroMed, the other via West Michigan Air Care, to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.
The driver and two other passengers in the car were not physically injured. After making a statement to police at the crash scene, the driver was released by police..
The surviving child remains in critical condition, according to police.
Names are not being released at this time. The crash remains under investigation and the passenger car operator’s name will not be released pending the completion of the investigation.
The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Fennville Police Dept., Douglas Police Dept., Michigan State Police, Saugatuck Twp. Fire Dept., Ganges Fire Dept., AMR Ambulance, AeroMed and West Michigan Air Care.
