GRAND RAPIDS (WHTC-AM/FM) — The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for today, July 4, 2018, from noon to 8 p.m.
Tempeatures are expected to hit the lower 90s by early aftenoon, but will feel like 100 degrees.
The NWS advises people to take it easy to avoid heat-related illnesses. Some tips:
- reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening
- know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke
- wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible
- drink plenty of water.
If you do have to work outside, take frequent resk breaks in shade or air-conditioned spaces.
If you or somoene nearby is overcome by heat, takes the following actions: Move the person to a cool or shaded place, apply cool, damp cloths and have them slowly sip water.
