SOUTH HAVEN (WKZO AM/FM) — A boater is lucky to be alive after a water rescue on Lake Michigan.
Officers were dispatched to North Beach around 7:15 p.m. Sunday after reports that an inflatable boat capsized about 30 yards off of the North Pier in South Haven.
They located the victim, who was not wearing a life jacket at the time, threw him a life ring, and pulled him to a ladder where he was able to get out safely.
The man told officers that he was exhausted and thought he was going to drown if they were not there to help.
He said that he intended to go down the river, but when he went to turn around the winds picked up his inflatable and flipped him into the water just as the stormy weather was coming ashore.
