HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has declared an ozone action day for Saturday and Sunday, June 30 and July 1, 2018, for Allegan, Ottawa, Kent and Van Buren counties.
This means elevated levels of ozone and pollutants in the unhealthy range for sensitive groups.
People and businesses are urged to avoid activities which lead to ozone formation:
- Refueling vehicles or topping off when refueling
- Using gasoline powered lawn equipment
Using charcoal lighter fluid
Helpful activities include:
- car pooling
- biking to work or for errands
- delaying or combining errands
- Using water based paints
Active children and adults, and those with respiratory diseases such as asthma, are advised to limit prolonged outdoor exertion.
