KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Families should think twice before setting off fireworks this weekend, unless they want to fork out $500.
Since the 4th of July is on a Wednesday this year, technically fireworks cannot be set off the weekend before or after the holiday.
Like many areas, the city of Kalamazoo’s rule is fireworks can only be discharged the day before, the day of, and the day after Independence Day and not between the hours of midnight and 8 a.m.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller says everyone should check their local municipality for specific rules and times.
A person who violates this rule could pay a civil fine up to $500.
