KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A former Kalamazoo Public Safety officer who claims he was fired for racial reasons, has filed a federal suit claiming his civil rights were violated.
Amir Khillah, who is Egyptian, won several commendations while he was a Public Safety Officer.
He is now claiming that he was assigned to a supervisor who was an Iraqi war veteran who demeaned him, micro-managed his work life, and referred to him using racial slurs. He was eventually fired.
Killah says most of the people he worked with at Public Safety were good people, but he says he asked for help from upper management and got no help.
Chief Karianne Thomas says they do not discuss personnel matters.
