PORTAGE (WKZO AM/FM) — Even when Westnedge Avenue is operating at full capacity, navigating the busy commercial corridor as it flows through Portage can be frustrating.
Add lane closures due to construction and it can be a real headache.
Now shop owners say the only cars they are seeing in their lots are drivers using them as short cuts to get around congestion, and it’s about to get worse.
Crews plan to lay new sewer lines across the opening to J.L. Hudson Drive, the main entrance to the Crossroads overnight Thursday and Friday.
During the day, the entrance will be restricted, overnight it will be closed.
There are other ways to get to the Crossroads that city officials suggest commuters use.
The project isn’t expected to be completed until early September.
