BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Two children, ages two and five, died in a fire in a fifth wheel camper trailer that was next to a home at 1139 Hollow Road west of Bronson Monday morning.
A third child, a 7-year-old reportedly escaped and is being treated for burn injuries at the Bronson Methodist Hospital Burn Unit in Kalamazoo.
At last report, the fire in Bronson Township is under investigation by the Branch County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police Fire Marshall Office.
The fire was reported at about 10:30 a.m. Monday. Bronson Fire Department crews were told that people were possibly trapped inside.
They found the camper trailer engulfed in flames. The fire was put out quickly but it was too late to save the children.
The Burr Oak Fire Department was initially requested to provide mutual aid but they were later cancelled.
No further information about the fire, including the names of the children who perished, is being released at this time.
