KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety has taken three more guns off the streets, and three more potentially violent criminals are facing jail time, in separate and unrelated arrests over the weekend.
In all three cases, the guns were stolen from someone else.
Friday night on Douglas Avenue, the suspect pulled out a gun to take a look at it, apparently unaware he was standing in front of undercover officers staked out in a car.
They called in marked units to confront the 32-year-old who tried to toss the gun during an unsuccessful escape attempt.
Saturday evening, just before 8pm, during a routine traffic stop, police learned drugs were in the car and during a search, found a loaded pistol in the glove compartment, in addition to delivery amounts of marijuana.
The 18-year old driver made a run for it but didn’t get far.
At about 5:30 Sunday morning officers on directed patrol in the Fox Ridge complex learned of a man parked in a car, had been waiving around a pistol earlier.
The man was followed as he left and as he got out of the car, confronted and the pistol retrieved from his waistband.
All three face felony gun counts in addition to other crimes.
