KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — There is nothing like a graduation ceremony to renew your faith in humanity and to make you feel young again.
327 members of the Kalamazoo Central class of 2018 received their diplomas Thursday night in a ceremony that was filled with music, inspiration and humor.
It was a celebration of the children who have struggled, had to work to help support their families while going to school, the ones who were homeless and those that breezed through with 4 point GPA’s.
The speakers shrugged off the school’s tough reputation noting their history on the basketball courts and the Mock Trial courts nationally.
They were the class that sponsored an on-line petition after the Parkland shootings that drew national attention.
Superintendent Michael Rice encouraged them to continue standing up for what’s right.
Thanks to The Promise, most of them will be going on to higher education, and last night’s ceremony was held to mark a beginning, and not an end.
It was a reminder for every story you hear about a teen making a bomb threat, or robbing a gas station, there are hundreds of teens who are doing their homework, going to proms, enjoying their friends and have bright bright futures.
