MARSHALL TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Calhoun County Sheriif’s Department deputies are investigating a series of events on I-94 near Marshall that led to a collision and caused life threatening injuries to one woman early Sunday morning.
They say at about 3:00 a.m. a driver hit a deer along the interstate and stopped along the freeway.
A 32-year-old woman from Galesburg with two children on board slowed to help the first driver when deputies say she was rear-ended by a 21-year-old driver who is now under investigation.
A passenger in that third car had to be cut and pried out of the wreckage of the car she was riding in. She was transported to Bronson Methodist in Kalamazoo in critical condition.
The third driver and the woman and her children in the second car were also treated for minor injuries.
Deputies believe speed and alcohol may have been factors.
