DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) -A dog was found dead inside of a crate at Detroit Metro Airport and the owner of the dog is consulting with an attorney.
Delta airlines says a dog was found dead inside a crate while travelling on a flight from Phoenix to Newark.
An airline spokeswoman said the dog was traveling by cargo with its family and was found dead during a lay-over in Detroit.
Michael Dellegrazie says Alejandro, his 8-year-old Pomeranian was fine when they took off and 2-1/2 hours later he was dead.
They say their workers at the cargo shipping facility found vomit in the crate. Delta says they’re conducting a thorough review of what happened, and they’re working with the dog’s owner to support them.
It’s the latest in a series of incidents involving the deaths of pets on board airlines, and has prompted federal legislation imposing new rules on airlines to improve their handling of live cargo. The bill is called the Welfare of Our Furry Friends Act, or “WOOFF” act.
